Call for Nominations

Minnesota Perinatal Organization (MPO) is a 501(C)3 nonprofit organization that was founded in 1974 as a multidisciplinary association of individuals and organizations dedicated to improving perinatal health. MPO provides up-to-date information on perinatal care practices, services and technical advancements and an opportunity to network with professionals from the region. The Minnesota Perinatal Quality Collaborative (MNPQC) was developed in 2018 and is facilitated by the Minnesota Perinatal Organization (MPO) along with support from the Minnesota Department of Health.

Our vision: MPO strives to bring together key stakeholders from around the state to improve communication, dissemination of information, and improve perinatal health outcomes.

Our mission: As the parent organization, MPO strives to optimize perinatal health in Minnesota through education. The MNPQC, which is housed within MPO, is a network of organizations, medical providers, content experts, and community voices led by Minnesota Perinatal Organization (MPO) in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). We seek to improve perinatal and infant health outcomes with an emphasis on improving health equity for all birthing people.

The Minnesota Perinatal Organization is seeking qualified individuals who support our goals to serve on our Board of Directors. The MPO Board of Directors is seeking a diverse membership from throughout the state. Members should be passionate about the mission of MPO, have excellent communication and relationship building skills, innovation, and accountability. Additional skills or knowledge that are desirable, but not required, include, business, finance, and grant writing.

Timeline of Nominations:

November 2022: Call for nominations

January 31, 2023: Nominations deadline (Please click here to nominate yourself or an associate)

January 2023:  Interview nominees and select recommended candidates for board approval

February 2023: Board to review candidates and vote

Expectations of Board Members

  • Commit to a 3-year term, March 1, 2023 to March 1, 2026
  • Attend all Board meetings (minimum of quarterly, but as frequently as monthly if necessary)
  • Participate in discussions using the on-line platform Basecamp, answer emails, and fulfill committee obligations. The time commitment varies based on MPO needs
  • Facilitate the growth of MPO through building connections within the community
  • Help to support fundraising through various means, including participating in review of grant proposals, securing sponsors for the annual conference, fundraising or through direct contribution
  • Perform other duties as prescribed by the MPO Board

MPO-President-Job-Description

  • Align MPO and MNPQC 5-year strategic goals
  • Create and maintain relationships with partner organizations and other community and industry leaders
  • Chair the MPO board meetings (monthly updates/meetings include creating agenda & additional prep)
  • Participate in the MNPQC steering committee (quarterly meetings including prep as needed)
  • Assist in recruiting board members and other individuals for projects/work to support the mission of organization (see board member responsibilities)

Treasurer

  • Keep accurate financial records for the MPO
  • Report the finances of the organization board meeting quarterly
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and development of fundraising plans

  • Oversee MPO’s philosophy and review teams performing in achieving its mission
  • Work with agencies, foundations, and major donors to develop branding and marketing strategies.
  • Create and maintain relationships with partner organizations and other community and industry leaders.
  • Assist with fundraising with developing contacts and fulfilling fundraising plan.
